Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday informed that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal (BoB) around May 22, 2024.
Going by the latest IMD forecast, the low-pressure area is likely to move initially north-eastwards and subsequently concentrate into a depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal around May 24.
The regional centre of IMD took to its X handle and wrote: “A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around 22nd May. It is likely to move initially northeastwards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal around 24th May 2024.”
Odisha is likely to witness rainfall and thunderstorms under the impact of a low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal.
Many pockets in the state are reeling under scorching heatwave conditions, though a low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal on Saturday.
The low pressure which is likely to become more marked over the Bay of Bengal in the next few days is likely to trigger rainfall in several parts of Odisha, bringing people relief from the scorching heat, said sources.
