Bhubaneswar: As forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday, the low-pressure area formed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal turned into a visible depression on Tuesday. The low-pressure area is more condensed and visible over the Bay of Bengal now, according to regional meteorologist Umesh Das.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure area is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the East Central Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea around May 10.
The cyclonic storm is likely to gradually move north-northwestwards towards the east-central Bay of Bengal till May 11. Thereafter, it is likely to recurve gradually and move north-northeastwards towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts.
The system will be named as Cyclone ‘Mocha’ if it intensifies into a cyclonic storm.
However, Odisha is unlikely to be affected by the cyclone but may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
