Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation, the remnant of Tropical Cyclone WIPHA, is likely to emerge over the north Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the same region during the subsequent 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, the IMD issued a Yellow Warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by gusty surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph. These conditions are likely to affect one or two places in the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, and Keonjhar.
Similar weather conditions are expected over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal in the next 24 hours.
Orange and Red Warnings Issued
For July 24, an Orange Warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, and Koraput, where heavy to very heavy rain is likely. A Yellow Warning remains in place for Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, and Angul.
On July 25, a Red Warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall. An Orange Warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Sundargarh. A Yellow Warning is in effect for Bargarh, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Boudh, Sonepur, Nawarangpur, Koraput, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, and Kalahandi.
From July 26 to 28, an Orange Warning remains for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, while Yellow Warnings have been issued for Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Gajapati.
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the north Bay of Bengal and along and off the Odisha, West Bengal, and Bangladesh coasts between July 24 and 27, due to rough sea conditions and gusty winds.
