Bhubaneswar: With a low-pressure system likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal around September 25-26, the Dussehra celebrations in Odisha may be dampened by rainfall.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is expected to intensify into a depression and bring medium to heavy rainfall to most parts of the state on September 27 and 28.
The rainfall is likely to affect the festivities, particularly on the sixth day (Shashti) of the Durga Puja celebrations, which falls on September 28. Professor Pasupalak predicts that the rainfall may continue on September 29, before the weather becomes dry after September 30.
As per the prediction by regional weather office, the low-pressure system is likely to traverse western Odisha and proceed towards Chhattisgarh and subsequently Nagpur by September 29. Rainfall is anticipated on September 29, but the weather is expected to turn dry after September 30. This forecast is preliminary, and a more precise estimation will be possible by September 21.
