Low Pressure Triggers Heavy Rainfall In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area formed over Northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood is likely to move west-north-westward during next 2-3 days and become more marked over Northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 24 hours.

In view of this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Red and Orange warnings for several districts of Odisha for the next three days.

In the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Dhenkanal.

Under its impact, there will be water logging in low lying areas and localized flash
flood in some areas, some damage to kutcha house and informal road, landslides in hilly areas, traffic congestion, under pass road and water logging in low lying areas of urban areas. Besides, damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.

Further, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Sonepur and Bolangir.

Under its impact, there will be water logging in low lying areas and localized flash
flood in some areas, some damage to kutcha house and informal road, landslides in hilly areas, traffic congestion, under pass road and water logging in low lying areas of urban areas.

Similarly on Day 2, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Deogarh.

Besides, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Dhenkanal.

There will be a decline in rainfall activity on Day 3 with heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.
