Dhenkanal: As many as 40 passengers had a close shave as the bus they were travelling in caught fire in Dhenkanal district, on Friday.
According to sources, the bus named Priyanshi was going to Bhubaneswar from Angul when the bus caught fire after crossing Dhenkanal near Anand Nagar on National Highway 55. Smelling something unpleasant, the bus driver immediately asked all the passengers to alight from the bus. Within a minute, the bus burst into flames.
The locals informed the Dhenkanal fire brigade team. However, by the time the fire-fighting team reached, the fire had spread all over the bus, damaging it extensively. It is learnt that despite the huge damage to the bus, there was no loss of life or injury in the fire incident.
Prima facie, the fire officials suspect a short circuit as the cause of the fire, although a detailed investigation is underway.
Vehicular services were disrupted due to the fire mishap.
