**Keonjhar:** Ghatagaon Maa Tarini temple which is a much worshipped place in Odisha is in news for a new reason altogether. Located in Keonjhar district under Ghatagaon police limits, this 600-year-old temple attracts lakhs of devotees from all over the Country especially Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand.
New motor vehicles, two-wheelers at large can be seen almost every other day, coming for puja. The owners worship and seek blessings of Maa for a safe ride. Going by the figures, at least 50 new vehicles are brought for the puja every day and at special occasions (auspicious days like sankranti) the toll rises to 100 or more.
While road accidents are continuing to surge in the State, a majority of two-wheeler riders in several towns of Odisha, prefer to drag the wheels without a headgear.
Viewing the growing rate of road accidents, an awareness drive on road safety stressing on the use of helmet was conducted between the temple trust committee and the district police. The trust committee readily agreed to refuse conducting puja unless the owner of the two-wheeler comes along with a helmet. The temple displays a sign with a message “Sorry, No puja of motorcycles will be performed without helmet” in both English and Odia languages.
The trust committee members and local sarpanch welcomed this initiative.
