Bhubaneswar: The ‘Mahadeepa’ of Lord Lingaraj will be placed atop the temple crown (Dadhinauti) at 10 pm on Mahashivaratri Day scheduled on March 8.
A decision in this regard was taken at a review meeting attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh and members of nijogs.
In a bid to regulate huge footfall to the 11th-century shrine during the festivity, the Commissionerate Police and the temple administration will come up with elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of all the rituals on Maha Shivaratri at Lingaraj temple on March 8.
Police teams will be deployed to ensure smooth movement of traffic and a hassle-free darshan for devotees, sources said.
Apart from DCP Prateek Singh and temple servitors, Congress leader Sura Routray was present at the review meeting.
Among the famous Shiva shines, Lingaraj temple is the famous one that attracts lakhs of devotees on this day.
Placing of the Mahadeep atop the temple is a significant ritual as devotees break their fast after seeing the mahadeepa.
