**Bhubaneswar: ** The Central Government on Monday apprised the Supreme Court to issue notification for constituting Special Tribunal in a bid to resolve the ongoing Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
The Centre today deposed and apprised the apex court about its stand on the Mahanadi row, as per media reports.
The date of hearing on the petition moved by Odisha Government earlier had been deferred to October 9 as the Central Government had earlier sought four-week time to depose and present data in connection with Odisha’s special tribunal demand.
After writing to the Centre previously, Odisha had also moved the apex court seeking a stay on ongoing construction of river projects on Mahanadi upstream by adjoining Chhattisgarh.
Odisha Government had earlier petitioned the Central Government for formation of an Inter-State Tribunal under Section 3 of the Interstate River Water Disputes Act, 1956 (IRWD Act).
Odisha BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma in his reaction said that their party welcome the Supreme Court’s order. Now Mahanadi will not be a political pawn.
