Mahanadi Mars Again 2nd Day Of Odisha Assembly’s 2nd Phase, House Adjourned

**Bhubaneswar: ** The nagging problem of Mahanadi water sharing dispute with neighbouring Chhattisgarh had its resounding effect consecutively for the second day of the second phase of Odisha Assembly’s significant Budget Session.

While the first day got adjourned due to pandemonium over the Mahanadi Tribunal issue created by ruling BJD members, agitated opposition Congress and BJP legislators created ruckus over the same Mahanadi issue following which the Speaker had to adjourn the House till 3 pm for the day.

Soon after the House assembled for the day, main opposition Congress demanded for cancelling the Question Hour and take up the most vital issue of Mahanadi as it is a prime interest of the State as well as its people.

Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati rushed to the well of the House and besides resorting to uproarious scene assisted by his party members tried to snatch the Speaker’s microphone by scaling onto the Speaker’s podium.

The BJP members also followed the suit in the din on the same issue.

Unable to run the House proceedings, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat was bound down to adjourn the normal business till 3 pm. Later, he convened an all party meeting in his chamber to resolve the stalemate.

Later it was decided that the Mahanadi issue will be taken up for discussion in the Assembly for detailed discussion for four hours participated by all the parties in the House.

In his media reactions, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said, “Today I requested the Speaker to cancel the Question Hour and take up the discussion on Odisha’s vital issue of Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattisgarh or convene the House Committee formed for the purpose headed by the Chief Minister in order to find out a solution of the plaguing problem. But the hon’ble Speaker didn’t allow me to speak on it. Hence, we (Congress) protested. “

BJD MLA Dibya Shankar Mishra reacted, “When the BJD members exhibited their concerns on the Mahanadi issue, both the Congress and BJP members didn’t support. Rather they protested our move. The BJP members’ soft corner for Chhattisgarh has been exposed. The poor farmers of Odisha are being deprived of their legitimate right to water. That’s why, BJD will keep on intensifying its protest so that the Mahanadi water is once again made available to our Odisha farmers.
