Bhubaneswar: While ruling BJD-led by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already launched its vehement tirade against both Chhattisgarh and Centre ruled by BJP, the newly-revamped Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in the State here has also tightened up its belt to convene a massive convention and intensify an agitation over the ongoing Mahanadi water sharing dispute with neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

Informing media on Wednesday, Jharsuguda Congress MLA and newly-appointed PCC working president Naba Kishore Das said that Congress has decided to organise a ‘Mahanadi Mahasammelan’ in western Odisha in which people’s representatives and activists of the ongoing Mahanadi revolution from 15 districts of Odisha along the Mahanadi basin will be invited to take part. Even Congress is planning to make it an all party issue since Mahanadi issue serves the interest of Odisha and its people.

Odisha Cooperation & Food Supplies Minister Surya Narayan Patro commented, “Both Chhattisgarh and Centre’s BJP Governments have jointly hatched a conspiracy against Odisha over Mahanadi. During the non-monsoon period, Mahanadi water table has acutely declined. Hence two days ago, Hon’ble Chief Minister gave a clarion call to our BJD. A large worshop was organised here and our party’s elected people’s representatives from 15 districts participated in it. The motto of our party supremo is to make aware the people of Odisha as well as the nation against the lackadaisical attitude of the BJP Government at Centre and Chhattisgarh and also their injustice meted out to our State and its people" . In his media reactions, Odisha BJP president Basant Panda said, “The party which has failed to reach the people through its development programmes, it needs some issues and dramatic plea to survive politically. That is applicable to both BJD and Congress and they are doing so. But, the people of Odisha have already realized their dramatics and showbiz. Both merely resort to rhetorics. On the other hand, BJP led by our dear Prime Minister is on its uninterrupted developmental activities for the people for the last four years.”

“So far the Mahanadi Tribunal Terms of Reference is concerned, it is well-known that it has already been framed and presented. It has paved path for the certain solution of Mahanadi water sharing dispute. Those who are politicking on it, our society will never accept it,” the senior saffron party leader criticized.
