Bhubaneswar: General darshan at Puri Jagannath temple was disrupted for around one and a half hours due to the Mahasnana (grand bath) ritual in the 12th-century shrine today.
Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced a temporary closure due to the Mahasnana ritual, which was performed during the Abakash Puja. Due to an unfortunate incident of spitting near the Bhitar Katha, the SJTA has temporarily restricted general darshan for Mahasnana ritual.
It is pertinent to mention that Mahasnana is a significant purification ritual performed when the sanctity of the temple is considered compromised. During this rite, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Maa Subhadra are ritually cleansed to restore spiritual purity. During these proceedings, devotees were unable to enter the temple.
