Bhubaneswar: The Women Wing of Odisha Congress gheraoed the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida in protest over the minor girl burning case in Balanga area of Puri district. Led by state Mahila Congress President Meenakshi Bahinipati, the workers pelted tomatoes at the Deputy CM’s residence, raising slogans against the government. The protest prompted the police to take some women Congress workers into custody.

The incident involved miscreants setting a 15-year-old girl on fire in the Balanga area in Puri district. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida posted on ‘X’ that the girl was immediately shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where arrangements are being made for her treatment. The government will bear all expenses, and the police administration has been instructed to arrest the culprit and take strict action. Parida expressed grief over the unfortunate incident.

A 14-member medical team is providing special treatment to the minor girl, who has suffered around 75% burns and is in critical condition. The treatment is being led by expert doctors at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. The incident occurred when the minor girl was going to her friend’s house, and miscreants followed her, kidnapped her, and set her on fire in a deserted place.
