Bhubaneswar: Maitri Vihar police on Wednesday have detained two persons in connection with the theft and subsequent gang-rape of a woman in an apartment under its jurisdiction on Sunday night.
According to reports, police raided several possible hideouts of the accused in the capital city during the last two days and detained two persons in connection with the crime. While the identity of the accused has not been revealed yet, police are interrogating them.
It is worth mentioning here that two robbers broke into an apartment under Maitri Vihar police limits on Sunday night with the intention of theft. After stealing valuables, they spotted the victim with her two-year-old baby alone in the apartment. The burglars brandished a bhujali and threatened the woman to kill her baby if she raised an alarm. Subsequently, they took turns on the woman.
Shocked and ashamed over the barbaric incident, the woman summoned courage and filed a complaint at Maitri Vihar police station on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, human rights activist Jayant Das has lodged a complaint in this regard with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
