Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Betnoti police busted a major contraband racket by seizing a large quantity of CODILUS-T cough syrup while being smuggled in a car on NH-18 near Thana Chhaka.
Police arrested three accused persons were taken into custody, and a significant haul of contraband was seized, including 839 bottles of CODILUS-T Cough Syrup worth Rs. 1.41 lakh, three mobile phones, cash amounting to Rs 839 and an Innova car, used for transporting the contraband.
The accused have been identified as Muna Naik, Debabrata Rout and Uttam Naik.
During the investigation, police came to know that Codilus -T Cough Syrup contains Codeine which is a narcotic drug and psychotropic substance.
Acting on reliable information, the police team led by the IIC Inspector Sasmita Mahanta blocked and searched the vehicle and found the car was loaded with seven cartoons of cough syrup.
On-demand, three detainees failed to produce any valid license or documents towards possession and transportation of such contraband articles, confirming the detection of NDPS materials. The contraband was being transported from Balasore to Baripada.
The police have registered a case and are investigating further. The seized articles were handed over to the Tehsildar and Drugs Inspector, who arrived at the spot in response to a requisition from the police.
