Jajpur: Seven persons were killed after a mini-truck rammed into another stationary truck parked along the road, in the wee hours of Saturday. The tragedy took place near Neulpur in Dharmasala of Jajpur district on NH 16.
The identity of the deceased was yet to be identified. At least four persons sustained injuries in the accident among whom, one was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed.
Meanwhile, locals, police and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and carried out relief and rescue activities. The exact cause behind the mishap is being verified.
Sources said, the stationary truck had caught fire last night for unknown reasons and was parked along the National Highway. Today morning, a crab-laden goods carrier rammed into this parked vehicle from behind, which led to the tragedy.
All the deceased reportedly belonged to Kolkata and its nearby areas. They had come to Odisha to collect poultry items, said reports. A case has been registered in this connection by the local police.
