Puri: All makeshift shops on the Bada Danda (Grand Road) will remain closed during the five days of holy Panchuka, informed Puri Collector Samarth Verma.
Barricades will be put up from Lion’s Gate (Simha Dwara) of the Shree Jagannath Temple up to Marichikote Chhak for smooth movement of devotees to the shrine, while movement of vehicular traffic will be restricted from Market Chhak, Verma added.
The Collector said that volunteers in three shifts will be deployed for crowd management during these five days.
On the other hand, makeshift toilets have been set up along both sides of the Bada Danda for convenience of the devotees.
Information on darshan arrangements for devotees is being announced on public address system.
Moreover, provision of safe drinking water has been made at each rest shade for the devotees and tourists.
Additional 30 platoons of policemen will be deployed during Panchuka to step up security arrangements and for smooth darshan, the Collector expressed.
