Malkangiri: Following the shocking news of the alleged sale of a poor nine-year-old boy by his parents who reportedly wished to get divorced in a bid to marry their respective paramours, the district administration yesterday initiated actions by rescuing the boy as well as his brother from their miseries.
As per reports, the estranged parents have been identified as Sukra Bhumia and his wife of nondescript Telgabeda village under Jianga panchayat in Mathili block here in the district. Their eldest son, first rescued, has been identified as Basudev while his sibling’s name is Jagannath. Jagannath was later rescued from Siraguda village where he was also being engaged as a goat tender.
Talking to OMMCOM NEWS, District Childline member Sukanti Biswal said, “First we received a phone call that a boy has been sold by his father to a person at Salapadar. We reached there. We met the BDO. We rescued the child. On being enquired further, he informed us about his brother at Siraguda in Mathili block. We also rushed there and found the boy tending goats. After rescuing him too, we produced both the children before the CWC. Now the two rescued children are under the care of Paribartana Sishu Gruha (Children Home). They will be brought up here with the required education being imparted.
In his reactions, elder sibling Basudev told OMMCOM NEWS, “We’ll get educated here and do a good job in future. Not interested in going back to the village. We were tending goats there at Salapadar and Siraguda villages. Our father had engaged us into the goat-tending job.”
