**Bhubaneswar: ** Considering the fact that Malkangiri district in general and Kalimela PS area in particular is considered to be one of the strongholds of CPI (Maoist), Odisha DGP dubbed the operation a spectacular achievement by the District and Operation Wing of State Police. The DGP also said that it will go a long way in containing the CPI (Maoist) activities in Kalimela Police Station area of Malkangiri district.
Addressing a press meet here today, DGP R.P. Sharma said, “Based on credible information about presence of armed CPI (Maoist) group, anti-Maoist operation was launched on Sunday (November 3, 2018) evening in Poplur-Kurmanur forest of Bejangiwada Reserve Forest area (1-2 km away from Andhra border) under Kalimela Police Station by the District and State Operations Wing by mobilizing two units of Special Operations Group (SOG).”
“During the operation, there was exchange of fire between the armed Maoist cadres and the security forces in the wee hours Monday (November 5) and the operation is still on. Five hardcore Maoists, that includes 3 male and 2 female cadres, were neutralized in this operation,” informed the DGP.
He further informed, “Two SLR rifles, one INSAAS rifle, .303 rifle, one grenade and other articles have been recovered from the spot. The identification of the cadres killed in this encounter is under process. Randev, the leader, has not been identified from the dead bodies. We guess that an ACM is among the 5 killed.”
“Preliminary identification of the dead female Maoists has been made. They both belong to Odisha. Efforts are on to establish the identity of the male dead. It is also identified that they are all of Kalimela Dalam,” the Odisha DGP stated.
