Malkangiri Forest Sleuths Bust Illegal Wooden Plank Trade, 1 Nabbed

Malkangiri: The staff of Malkangiri Forest Division today seized a huge quantity of expensive wooden planks from a person’s house who had been dealing in the illegal trade clandestinely since long.

The forest team today raided a house at Ashirbad Colony owned by one Hari Nag here in the headquarters town and seized piles of wooden planks of Saguan (teak wood/ Tectona grandis) and Piasal (Pterocarpus marsupium) trees.

As per reports, accused Hari Nag had been into carpentary business and the unlicensed trade since long keeping the Forest Department in dark.

During today’s raid, the forest officials seized wooden planks meant for three incomplete cots and a sofa set.

Notably, the present market price of a cot made of Saguan is minimum Rs 1,50,000 while the price of a sofa set is minimum Rs 60,000.
