Bhubaneswar: In view of the Naxal Martyr’s Week, beginning July 28, Malkangiri District Police have intensified combing operations and security measures. The district has been put on high alert, with intensive patrolling by security forces.
Police have sealed border points and examined stranger and unidentified vehicles
The intelligence department has also been alerted.
Police and BSF are prepared to tackle any situation related to Maoist activities. Historically, Maoists have resorted to violence during this period, congregating at ‘shaheed pillars’ to spread their ideology among locals. However, security forces have destroyed these pillars in border areas.
Notably, Maoist activities have declined in Odisha, whereas neighbouring Chhattisgarh continues to face challenges. Many Naxal cadres have surrendered and joined the mainstream, renouncing violence recently.
