Malkangiri: In a crackdown on illegal gambling activities, Malkangiri police raided a cockfighting event near Gouda Guda under the jurisdiction of Malkangiri police station. The raid, carried out on the basis of a tip-off, led to the seizure of several items including a goat that had been designated as the prize for the winner of the event.
The operation was led by the Malkangiri Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO).
According to officials, the illegal gathering involved both cockfighting and betting, with the goat set aside as a trophy for the victor. However, before the police could apprehend anyone, participants fled the scene upon noticing the approaching team.
Despite the escape of the suspects, the police managed to seize seven motorcycles, a generator, and various equipment used in the gambling activity, in addition to taking custody of the goat. In a somewhat unusual sight, the goat was transported to the police station in a police vehicle, where it remains unclaimed.
The Inspector-in-Charge of the Malkangiri police station confirmed that the goat is currently being held as part of the investigation and will soon be handed over to someone for safekeeping. Police continue to investigate the incident and identify those involved in the illegal event.
