Bhubaneswar: Incessant rain in Malkangiri district has caused a flood-like situation disrupting connectivity to the neighbouring states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The 326 National Highway, connecting Malkangiri with Motu, is currently impassable due to floodwaters overflowing onto the Kankarakonda bridge.
As per reports, vehicular movement between Malkangiri and Kalimela was disrupted as floodwater flowed 2 feet above the Kankarakonda and Kanyashrama bridges on NH 326 due to heavy downpours.
Moreover, the floodwater submerged the Kankarakonda bridge, making it impassable for vehicles. As a result, buses, trucks, and other vehicles are stranded on both sides of the bridge. The administration has restricted movement on the highway, and police personnel have been deployed to prevent people from crossing the flooded area.
The situation is being closely monitored by district officials, who are working to restore connectivity as soon as possible. Kalimela Block Development Officer, Motu Tehsildar and Kalimela Inspector In-Charge visited the submerged bridge and assessed the situation. The officials have provided updates to the district administration.
The heavy rainfall has also affected the connectivity to Padia, with the Kanyashram Bridge submerged under 2-4 feet of water. The district administration started taking necessary measures to mitigate the situation and ensure public safety.
