Malkangiri: A woman of Kodameta village in Malkangiri district has levelled a serious allegation against her husband for having sold one of her kidneys without her knowledge and consent at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
The woman concerned Ranjita Kundu has registered a complaint against her husband Prasanta Kundu at the Malkangiri Town police station in this connection.
Ranjita accompanied by her parents, and fellow villagers including a social worker Sarat Buruda today came to the police station to register the complaint.
Ranjita married Prasanta Kundu of Kodameta village 12 years back after falling in love.
The couple has two children– a daughter and a son. Though they were not on the best of terms Ranjita stayed at her in-laws’ house.
As per the allegation, Prasant had persuaded Ranjita and had brought her to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for medical treatment and had sold one of her kidneys to one Asim Haldar of MV 38 village of Malkangiri district for transplant without her knowledge or consent.
Victim Ranjita has sought justice for herself and stringent punishment for her husband Prasanta and her sister-in-law who were hand in glove in the illegal act.
“I was staying in Kodameta. We fell in love and got married. My husband Prasanta Kundu and my sister-in-law (husband’s sister) Seema Nandi took me to Bhubaneswar under a false pretext and sold one of my kidneys. I want justice. I am unable to work; my children are small. Both of them should be punished,” said Ranjita.
She said that they had taken her to the hospital for a blood test as she had developed stones.
“Check-up has revealed that one of my kidneys has been removed,” she alleged.
Sarat Buruda, a social worker who had accompanied Ranjita to the police station said that the latter’s husband Prasanta Kundu after beating her and against her wish had forcibly sold one of her kidneys using fake documents.
“The transplantation took place in a private hospital (name concealed) in Bhubaneswar. The kidney was transplanted in one Asim Haldar of MV 38,” said Sarat.
