Mamita Meher Case: BJP Observes 12-Hr Bolangir Bandh

Bhubaneswar: A day after observing a 12-hour bandh in Kalahandi district, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is observing a 12-hour Bolangir bandh from 6 AM today over the murder of lady teacher Mamita Meher.

The saffron party has demanded a CBI probe in the matter and the removal of Minister of State (MoS) for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged involvement in the case.

A delegation led by BJP state president Samir Mohanty had also met Governor Ganeshi Lal yesterday and appealed for action in accordance with the constitutional provisions. It sought the expulsion of Mishra for an impartial investigation into the case.

On the other hand, Chief Whip of BJD, Pramila Mallick, had asked the BJP to not politicise the heinous crime. She informed that a senior police official who has worked with the NIA is heading the case, and justice will be done.

Mamita Meher, the Principal of Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling of Kalahandi district had been missing since October 8. Her charred body was found buried in the Mahaling High School Stadium on Tuesday (October 19).

Northern Range DIG Deepak Kumar on Wednesday had informed that she was murdered by the prime accused Gobind Sahu, President of Sunshine School management committee, on October 8 and her body was burned and buried in the stadium on October 9.

As per sources, Gobind is the contractor for the construction of the stadium. He had been detained after an FIR was lodged against him by Mamita’s brother Bunty. However, he managed to escape from Titlagarh police barrack on Sunday (October 17).

He was apprehended on Tuesday while he was hiding in a sugarcane field in Budhipadar village under Bangomunda block of Bolangir district. During interrogation, he revealed that he had murdered Mamita fearing an expose of his illicit and extra-marital affair.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court, Bangomunda, yesterday allowed the police to take Gobind on a five-day remand.
