**Cuttack:** A man named Mihir Singh has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape an 8-yr-old minor girl near Derabis in Kendrapada. The accused has been arrested from Haladia village under Mahanga police limits.
“I was playing when the man offered me money for chocolates and took me inside a house. Once I was in, he locked it and forced himself on me. After some time, my brother came and rescued me after hearing my screams,” narrated the victim.
According to the victim’s mother, “The accused was in an inebriated condition and lured my daughter with money. He dragged him in the house and tried to rape him. I want justice for my child.”
“After receiving the complaint, we have started our investigation and have been interrogating the people. The accused has been apprehended,” said Ranjan Panda, SDPO, Kendrapada.
The accused is a habitual offender. He was embroiled in such an activity earlier also. But he was not punished and was left with a word of caution. He is known to be indulged in hanging out with anti-social elements and consuming alcohol at a community centre located in the village. We need to stop that in order to keep a check on such crimes,” said Akshay Khatua, former sarpanch of Narasinghpur gram panchayat.
