Sambalpur: Police arrested a 35-year-old man from Burla area for allegedly assaulting a young woman with a cement brick. The accused identified as Rakesh Das (35), a resident of Mahatabnagar in Burla,
The victim, daughter of complainant Niranjan, had been in regular contact with Das over the phone for two months.
On February 19, 2025, Das called the victim to meet him near Metakani Temple in Burla. When she arrived, he noticed her talking to someone else on her phone, which enraged him. He attacked her with a cement brick, intending to kill her. Local people rescued her and rushed her to VIMSAR, Burla, for treatment.
Police seized several items from Das’ possession, including a mobile phone, a broken mobile handset, a blood-stained stone, and the personal belongings of the victim. Das will be forwarded to the court, police said.
