Bhawanipatna: Police have arrested a person on charges of hunting wild animals and illegal possession of firearms at Sindikaguda village under Jaipatna police station in Kalahandi district.
Jitendra Sabar, a resident of Sindikaguda village, was arrested by the Jaipatna police for allegedly hunting in the Chiraka forest near his village. A country-made gun was seized from his possession during the raid.
Sabar claimed innocence, stating that his arrest was based on information provided by villagers who accused him of keeping a gun for poaching.
“My father, who had kept the gun, did not make any documents for it before his death during our childhood. I haven’t used it for poaching. I was sleeping in my house when the police arrested me. My ailing mother lives with me. The villagers complained against me, but I’m not involved in any poaching activities,” Sabar said.
Earlier, another person was arrested yesterday for poaching wild animals in Kulerguda Bhelua Bagicha under the Koksara police station in the same district.
