Bhubaneswar: A 47-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a woman after tying her hands and legs in her house near Gengutia railway overbridge under Sadar police station in Dhenkanal.
The incident occurred on Friday night when the victim, a teacher at a private school, was alone in her rented house near Gengutia Railway overbridge. The accused, identified as Hrushikesh Sahu (47), worked as a mason in a nearby sawmill.
Taking advantage of the victim’s loneliness, the accused entered her house, threatened her with a knife, and assaulted her sexually. The victim reported the incident to the police station on Saturday, based on which police registered a case and arrested the accused.
According to police, the victim lived alone in a rented house under the Gengutia railway overbridge. Harishikesh Sahu (47), a mason from a nearby sawmill, on Friday at 8:00 pm, sneaked into her house, hid himself, and later attempted to rape her. He gagged her face with a cloth as she screamed, then tied her hands and legs and raped her at knife point.
The victim lodged a written complaint at Sadar police station. The police registered a case and took immediate action, tracking the accused’s mobile phone. A police team arrested him while he was roaming on the outskirts of the city.
Accused Hrishikesh’s house is in Sharankot village under Barkot police station in Deogarh district, said Sadar police IIC Deepak Lenka. Under the direction of District Superintendent of Police Abhinav Sonkar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sadar police station officials, and a scientific team conducted an investigation at the spot. Police seized the knife used in the crime.
On Saturday, police arrested the accused Hrishikesh and recreated the crime scene. A senior official stated that the accused may be remanded for further investigation if necessary.
