Bhubaneswar: Barang police in Cuttack district on Wednesday arrested Govardhan Rout, accused of setting his son and daughter-in-law on fire in a shocking incident that took place on Saturday evening at Barasinga village, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, Govardhan poured petrol on his son, Dinabandhu Rout, and daughter-in-law, Sasmita Rout, while they were having dinner, before igniting them. The horrifying act left both victims with severe burn injuries.
Sasmita succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack. Dinabandhu, who sustained critical burns, is currently battling for his life.
Govardhan was initially detained by the police and was formally arrested on Wednesday. Investigations are underway to uncover the motive behind this heinous crime.
