Bhubaneswar: Police on Wednesday arrested a man for threatening a woman shopkeeper near IG Park under the jurisdiction of Capital Police Station.
The accused, identified as Suresh Behera, a native of Nayagarh district and currently residing in Patel Nagar, allegedly attempted to extort money from the shopkeeper.
According to reports, Suresh was roaming near IG Park with his girlfriend when he tried to showcase his power in the locality to impress her. During the incident, he threatened the shopkeeper with a machete, prompting her to flee onto the road. Locals attempted to stop him, but Suresh managed to escape initially.
“The accused first asked the woman for food at a lower price, and when she refused, he attacked her. Following the complaint, our team arrested him. He will be produced in court today,” said ACP Zone-1 Ramesh Chandra Bisoi.
