Bhubaneswar: A person committed suicide inside Barbil jail in Keonjhar district just six hours after being arrested in connection with the death of his wife.
The deceased has been identified as Tushar Kanta Mallick (29), a security guard at OMC in Barbil. He is a resident of Jaipur Binjharpur.
As per the report, Anasuya was found hanging in their home on August 18, and her father alleged that she was murdered by Tushar over dowry demands. Tushar was arrested on August 20 and sent to judicial custody.
However, in a tragic turn of events, Tushar was found hanging in his jail cell on August 21, just six hours after being lodged there. He had used a towel to hang himself.
According to sources, Tushar married Anasuya in 2020 after falling in love with her. The couple had a son together. However, after marriage, the couple had frequent quarrels over various issues. On August 18, a heated argument broke out between the couple, following which Anasuya locked herself inside the house. After some time, her screams were heard. When Tushar broke open the door, he found her hanging from the ceiling.
Anusaya was rushed to Barabil Hospital where she was declared dead. Her father alleged that she was murdered over dowry demands and made to look like a suicide. Following this, Tushar was arrested by Barbil police on Monday and sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected. He was found hanging in his jail cell in the wee hours of Wednesday. He used a towel to hang himself. He was taken to Barabil Hospital, where the doctor pronounced him dead.
According to Jailor Punam Prabha Nayak, Tushar was brought to the jail around 11 pm yesterday and was kept in cell number 6, where 11 others were already lodged. She said that around 5 am today, they received information that Tushar had hanged himself using a towel.
