Balasore: A man attacked his wife and in-laws at Khalina village under Jaleswar block of Balasore district on Thursday after she refused to return with him.

Reportedly, Ranjan Panda of Aruabruti village had visited his in-laws house yesterday to take back his wife who, unable to cope with Ranjan’s torture, had been residing in her paternal house for the last six months.

When his father-in-law Nilambar Panigrahi refused to send her daughter back,  Ranjan attacked his wife with a kitchen knife and even chased the family members with the weapon after they came for her rescue.

On getting information, police reached the spot but were unable to capture Ranjan for almost two hours. He was later overpowered by the villagers who after beating him black and blue tied his hands and legs and handed him over to police.

Around six persons including Ranjan’s mother-in-law Jayanti were injured in the incident. Meanwhile, police have arrested Ranjan after registering a case in this regard.
