Bhubaneswar: A 22-year-old youth allegedly killed his 55-year-old father in a bid to avenge his mother’s death at Bhalupatra village under Brahmani Tarang police limits in Sundargarh district.
The accused has been identified as Bishnu Barma who has been detained by police for killing his father Kranti Kumar Barma, said sources.
According to sources, Kranti Kumar had murdered his wife several years ago and was released from jail in December 2024 after serving his sentence.
However, his release did not bring peace to the family. Bishnu alleged that his father continued to be violent, often assaulting him and harassing women in the village.
Fed up with his father’s behaviour, the accused reportedly killed his father and dumped his father’s body on the road.
Police, on information, seized the body and started an investigation with the help of a forensic team.
The accused, Bishnu, was detained by police soon after the incident. Bishnu has confessed to the crime and reportedly told investigating police that he was driven to kill his father due to the trauma and pain he suffered after his mother’s death.
The case is still under investigation, and further details are awaited.
