**Balasore: ** A man allegedly attempted to rape a 10-year-old girl luring her with prashad of the ongoing puja there in Kherana village of the nearby panchayat of Soro here on Sunday.
This accused is identified as Shyam Sundar Khuntia.
The accused was caught red-handed by the villagers while attempting to rape the minor girl in a secluded place nearby when she cried for help. According to reports, Shyam lured her of the ongoing puja’s prasad and to show her around. The villagers caught hold of the accused and beat him black and blue.
The accused has been admitted at the Balasore hospital for treatment.
After the minor informed her parents about the whole incident, the victim’s father filed a complaint at the Soro police station.
Soro IIC Dilip Kumar Sahu said, “We have lodged a case against the accused Shyam Sunder Khuntia and are investigating into the matter”.
The police have registered two cases and are investigations are on.
