Man Burns Wife To Death, Attempts Suicide In Odisha's Balasore

Balasore: A man attempted suicide after burning his wife to death at Nuapur village under Gopalpur Police Outpost in Balasore district on Saturday.

Reportedly, Nilambar Malik (45) has a farm situated nearly 2.5 kilometres away from his home. Today afternoon his wife Sabitri Malik (40) had brought lunch for Nilambar while he was working at the farm.

There they had a fight over some issue following which Nilambar killed his wife, dumped her body on the haystack and set it on fire. Later, he attempted suicide by consuming pesticide. However, he immediately rushed to Gopalpur Community Health Centre (CHC) and confessed his crime.

On getting information, staff from Gopalpur Police Outpost rushed to the spot and recovered Sabitri's body from the burning haystack. Fire brigade from Soro also reached at the spot to douse the flames.

As condition of Nilambar was critical, he has been shifted to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
