Bhubaneswar: Gold weighing about 400 gms worth over Rs 20 lakh was seized from a passenger at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here today.
According to a press communique issued by BPIA authorities the gold was seized from a passenger identified as A Jainulabdeen at about 3.33 PM today who was travelling to Chennai by flight No.6E 209. The communique said that the passenger approached frisking booth No. 03 manned by security personnel H S Prasad.
As the indication of Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) was showing high density in the middle portion, Prasad again frisked the passenger with Hand Held Metal Detector (HHMD) and confirmed that the passenger was hiding something inside his cavity area.
Jainulabdeen was subjected to interrogation after which he confessed to carrying gold in the body cavity. Later, four pieces of rectangle shape yellow metal wrapped & concealed inside the body cavity was ejected. The approximate weight of the gold was found to be 400 gms valued at Rs 20, 14,000.
The communiqué said that the passenger has been deboarded and was handed over to Customs officials for further necessary action.
