Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a person arrested for allegedly molesting his minor daughter attempted suicide in the lock-up in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night. He was, however, rescued in an injured condition and admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to reports, police arrested one Badal Dal, a resident of the Sailasahi area in Maitri Vihar of Bhubaneswar, on Tuesday on charges of molesting his 14-year-old daughter. Soon after he was brought to the police station, he wanted to use the toilet, and the sentry on duty obliged him. The accused suddenly locked the door of the bathroom and hearing his loud cries; cops broke open the door of the toilet and rescued him in an injured condition.
The accused reportedly cut his hand with some sharp object in an attempt to commit suicide. Badal was initially rushed to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital.
On May 27, Badal’s wife and minor daughter went to the Maitri Vihar police station in Bhubaneswar and lodged a complaint that he had been molesting his daughter. His daughter alleged that he often touched her inappropriately and tried to molest her. Initially, she was too shy to tell about her father’s behaviour to anyone but later confided in her mother.
The police registered a case against the POCSO Act and arrested Badal on Tuesday evening.
