Bhubaneswar: Police detained a person for allegedly impregnating his 16-year-old daughter at Belpada in Balangir district, on Tuesday.

According to reports, the accused father, identified as Kuna (name changed), had a troubled relationship with his wife due to frequent quarrels between them. As a result, his wife had been living with her paternal family for the past seven years. Kuna’s two sons had also left for another state in search of work, leaving only Kuna and his 16-year-old daughter at home.

Kuna allegedly raped his daughter repeatedly, resulting in her pregnancy.  The incident came to light when the girl’s condition became apparent.  The villagers discovered the girl’s condition and informed the local Asha worker, who in turn notified the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Belapada.

The CDPO reported the incident to the police, who rescued the minor girl and sent him for medical examination. The test results confirmed her pregnancy.

Police, meanwhile, sent the accused into custody and are investigating the matter further. The minor girl has been shifted to Sakhi Centre in Balangir.
