Puri: A person was detained on Wednesday in connection with threatening messages allegedly scribbled on the walls of the Budhi Maa Thakurani Temple near the Balisahi entrance of the Heritage Corridor (Srimandir Parikrama Prakalpa Marg) at the Jagannath Temple in Puri.
The accused has been identified as Raghunath Sahoo (55), a local resident.
According to police, Sahoo appeared to be mentally unstable during the initial investigation.
“In the morning, our team discovered threatening messages on the temple walls. A special team was immediately deployed and during the investigation, we identified the accused as Raghunath Sahoo, a resident of Puri town,” said SP Mishra while addressing the media.
The SP further stated that Sahoo exhibited signs of mental instability and spoke incoherently during questioning.
“He admitted to scribbling the messages but was unable to clearly explain his actions. He also has a history of family-related disturbances. A medical examination will be conducted to assess his mental condition,” Mishra added.
Police believe that Sahoo acted alone. Further investigation is underway.
