Kalahandi: A 55-year-old man drowned in the Indravati South Canal near Talpadar in Kalahandi district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Drona Bagh, a resident of Talpadar area.
According to reports, Bagh had gone to relieve himself near the canal when he was swept away by the strong current, triggered by heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area.
Local residents immediately alerted the Kalampur Fire Department. A team reached the spot and launched a search operation. After several hours of effort, the body was recovered from the canal.
Police arrived at the scene and have sent the body for post-mortem.
