Angul: In a shocking incident, a man in Angul district allegedly tried to kill his two minor sons by forcing them to consume poison after a family dispute on Friday. The children are battling for their lives at the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.

According to police, the accused, identified as Kalicharan Pradhan of Tubey village under Jarapada police station, frequently quarreled with his wife over domestic issues. On Friday, following yet another argument, Kalicharan took his sons — Nilamadhab (14) and Jigyansu (8) — on a motorcycle to the Nuakheta area under Bantala police station limits. There, he allegedly made them ingest poison he was carrying.

Locals who witnessed the incident were horrified. They overpowered Kalicharan and handed him over to the police. The two boys were first rushed to Bantala Community Health Centre and then shifted to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital. Given their critical condition, they were later referred to the SCB Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack for advanced treatment.

Police have detained Kalicharan and are interrogating him to ascertain the full circumstances behind the crime. The incident has sparked outrage in Tubey village, with members of the local community strongly condemning the father’s brutal act.
