Man From Kendrapada Dons RBI Deputy Governor Post

**Kendrapada:** 58-year-old son of the soil, Bibhu Prasad Kanungo has ascended to the top position of deputy governor of RBI making the people of his native village, Balia proud of his achievement.

Balia is a small and sleepy hamlet,15 kms away from Kendrapada, a coastal district in Odisha and a person shouldering the huge responsibility of the country’s fiscal management hails from this village making it a matter of pride for the villagers.
Kanungo is the second person from Odisha to be appointed Deputy Governor of RBI after Harun Rashid Khan whose term ended in July 2016.

“I never dreamt big. But I fought all odds to reach my goal. My parents and teachers played a major role. My father was a government servant. He was the source of inspiration for me. Whatever I am today is because of their and my hard-work,” Bibhu Prasad said from New Delhi over telephone.

He pursued his education till Class VI from the village school and cleared HSC from Government High School of Unit 6 in Bhubaneswar.

An alumni of BJB College and Utkal University, he joined Oriental Bank of Commerce as a probationary officer in 1979 and Reserve Bank as a officer after passing Grade B examination in 1980.

He worked in Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Patna, Mumbai, New Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata and other places in the country during his stint as a senior officer of the Reserve Bank of India.
