Koraput: The Special Fast Track POCSO Court at Jeypore in Koraput district today convicted a 30-year-old man for raping a minor girl and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
In addition to that, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 to be paid by the convict, on default, he has to undergo additional imprisonment of six months.
Jeypore Special Fast Track POCSO Court judge Pradip Kumar Sasmal on the basis of evidence and statements of eight witnesses sentenced Bimal Gouda of Mandaguda village to 10 years RI for raping a minor girl under Binsipur police limits in 2014.
The court ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay Rs 1 lakh to the victim.
According to the proceedings of the case, convict Bimal had raped the minor girl for eight months with a promise to marry her. In the process the victim got pregnant and her family members and fellow villagers came to know about her pregnancy. Later, she delivered a stillborn baby which she threw away in the river.
Finally, the victim lodged a complaint at Binsipur police station on 23 June 2014. Based on the complaint police registered a case in the matter and after arresting Bimal forwarded him to court.
