Jajpur: The Jajpur Special POCSO Court on Wednesday awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment to one Nirmal Mallik after convicting him for raping a minor girl in 2021.
The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on convict Mallik. In default to pay the fine Mallik has to undergo imprisonment for two months more.
Further, the court has ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay the rape survivor a compensation of Rs 7 lakh.
The court pronounced the sentence based on statements recorded by six witnesses.
As per the case record, Mallik, a resident of Mangalpur police limits in Jajpur district had raped a minor girl in the same area in 2021 after finding her alone while she had gone to attend nature’s call. The victim’s family had filed an FIR at Mangalpur police station in this regard. Following the FIR Mallik was arrested and forwarded to court.
