Bhubaneswar: A man and his step-grandmother were sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by a special POCSO court in Keonjhar in connection with a minor rape case that took place in 2018 in Keonjhar district.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on Sahadatta Alli of Hanuman Hotting Sahi in Joda of Keonjhar. In default of payment of the fine, he would undergo three years more imprisonment.
Similarly, the grandmother of the convict, Amita Karua was awarded 30 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 20,000. In default of payment of fine, she has to undergo a further two years jail term.
The special court in Keonjhar held the accused guilty based on the statements of 20 witnesses and evidence.
The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay Rs 6 lakh compensation to the survivor.
