Bhubaneswar: A court in Bhubaneswar awarded death penalty to a man who killed his wife by stabbing her with a kitchen knife 33 times in Ghatikia area of Bhubaneswar.
Bhubaneswar ADJ-2 held Sanjit Dash guilty of killing his wife Saraswati and sentenced him to death.
The death sentence was awarded on the basis of statements of 15 witnesses, scientific evidence, fingerprints and 18 other documents. The judge pronounced the sentence terming it as ‘rarest of rare incidents’. The judge pronounced the verdict after hearing the heart-wrenching tale from Sanjit’s mother, daughter and sister-in-law.
The heinous crime took place in June 2022 at the house of Sanjit.
A BSc graduate Sanjit stabbed his wife Saraswati 33 times with a kitchen knife at their house in Ghatikia. He also attacked their six-year-old daughter with the knife and left her critically injured. The minor daughter had taken three months to recover from her injuries.
After committing the crime, Sanjit was strolling in Ghatikia area and was arrested by Bharatpur police.
Sanjit was drug addicted and often indulged in clashes with his wife Saraswati who used to maintain the family from her own income a nurse. On the fateful night June 22, 2022, Sanjit and Saraswati had a fight which took an ugly turn after Sanjit got irked in an inebriated condition. He had stabbed Saraswati 33 times and also attacked his minor daughter leaving her critically injured.
