Bhubaneswar: A man was awarded life imprisonment by a court in Bolangir district for killing his brother over a land dispute in 2019.
The court of Additional District Judge in Kantabanji of Bolangir also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on convict Achyut Bhoi of Khaira village under Bangomunda police station in Bolangir. In default of payment of fine, he would undergo two years of further imprisonment.
Achyuta had a long-standing dispute with his brother Bhabani over land. The dispute had taken an ugly turn on June 27, 2019 when Achyut attacked his brother with a wooden plank and iron rod killing him on the spot.
Bhabani’s wife lodged a complaint with the police who registered a case and arrested Achyuta.
The court today pronounced the verdict based on the statements of witnesses and other scientific evidence.
