Keonjhar: The Additional District & Sessions Judge Court of Anandapur in Keonjhar district today sentenced a man to life imprisonment after convicting him of murder of his wife.
The court today sentenced one Pradip Mallik of Ana village under Nandipada police limits of Hatadihi block in Keonjhar district to life imprisonment for murdering his wife Madhusmita.
The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Pradip. Further, the court has sentenced Pradip to undergo three years imprisonment and levied a fine of Rs 5,000 on him for destroying evidence after committing the murder.
After examining the depositions of 31 witnesses and pieces of evidence the court pronounced the sentence.
According to the proceedings of the case, Pradip and Madhusmita had a love marriage. Both used to work in a jatra (opera) party. Suspecting his wife’s character, Pradip had bludgeoned his wife Madhusmita to death with a stick. Pradip after murdering his wife had buried her body in his garden and had fled.
Around a month later after the incident when a foul smell started to emanate from Pradip’s garden, the locals informed the police.
With the help of its scientific team police exhumed Madhusmita’s mortal remains from the pit where Pradip had buried her after the murder.
Later on the basis of an FIR filed by the local gram rakhi (village guard), Nandipada police launched an investigation leading to Pradip’s arrest.
