Bhadrak: A man was sentenced to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 in a murder case that took place in 2018 in Dhamnagar area of Bhadrak.
Bhadrak District Additional District Judge Ashish Kumar Tripathi directed Arun Maharana of Mirzapur village under Dhamnagar police station to undergo six months more rigorous imprisonment in default of payment of fine.
On May 26, 2018, Ajay, son of Arjun Parida of Mirzapur village, was going to Dhamnagar on a bike, while accused Arun was driving his Auto rickshaw from the opposite direction.
He hit Ajay and hacked him with a dagger to death after Ajay fell down.
Rabindra Jena and Biswambara Sarangi of the same village witnessed the entire incident. They informed Ajay’s father who reached the spot and took him to hospital where doctors referred him to Cuttack.
On the way to Cuttack, Ajay narrated the incident before his father. He died during treatment in Cuttack.
The deceased’s father had lodged a complaint against Arun Maharana at Dhamnagar police station.
The accused Arun was arrested by the police and sent to jail.
